Come up to Friday Harbor for the weekend and come away with the skills necessary to navigate without a GPS and time permitting, a better understanding of how to use the electronics available to the modern sailor.

This is a classroom class but if weather and time permits we will cast off for some hands-on training afloat and underway.

Able to apply the navigational theory and practices for safe navigation of a sailing vessel in coastal and inland waters. On-water coastal navigation skills elements are contained in the ASA103, Basic Coastal Cruising, ASA 104, Bareboat Cruising, and ASA 106, Advanced Coastal Cruising, in progressively increasing levels of detail.

We will be meeting in the GBA classroom at Surina Business park where there are tables and a big screen tv and enough room for 4 people to spread out their charts and learn how to navigate without a GPS using only a compass, a chart, and some charting tools.

Here is the link to the ASA site describing what we will cover.

You don't need both textbooks and the light list and chart one etc they are extra but do buy some dividers and parallel rulers. If you live in Seattle we recommend you go to Captains Nautical.

https://www.captainsnautical.com/

If you find either of those Nav texts used without the DVDs you can find all the videos on youtube now. Lots of great videos online geared toward helping mariners study for their captain's license, which has an easier test than the ASA tests but covers the same material so if you have dreams of getting your captain’s license you now have another excuse to come up and join us.

Accommodations may be available.

The cost of the class is $500 each.
